Ceiling Fan Benefits

Not only do ceiling fans help to circulate air throughout a room, but they can also help to keep your home’s temperature consistent, using less energy all year long. In the summer months, a counter-clockwise fan motion can help to lower the temperature, while in the winter months, a clockwise fan motion can help lower your heating bills by bringing rising warm air down. Plus, some fans are equipped with a lighting feature to increase the brightness of your room. All these benefits bring a practical and versatile investment for your home - contact the professionals at Mario Castillo Electric today for all your ceiling fan installation services.

Signs Your Ceiling Fan Needs to be Replaced

Your trusty ceiling fan has been keeping you cool for years, but lately, you've noticed it's not performing the way it used to. If you notice the fan wobbling or shaking, this tells us that a ceiling fan replacement is needed. This wobbling can also be caused by blades that are not properly aligned, warped or bent. Another reason could be that the blades are improperly installed or are different shapes and sizes from each other. Furthermore, noise coming from the fan or a bad smell could be signs of a motor overheating or too much dust buildup in the motor. If you notice any of these signs, it may be time to consider replacing your ceiling fan to ensure the safety and comfort of your loved ones.

Ceiling Fan Installation

Ceiling fans are a great addition to any room. However, it's important to keep in mind that the installation process requires careful consideration of the room's existing setup. Depending on the layout of the wiring and switches, a new electrical panel, dimmers, and brace box may be necessary to ensure a safe and proper fan installation service. This is not a do-it-yourself project. If fans are installed incorrectly, it can lead to a fire hazard in your home. Trust the experts at Mario Castillo Electric to install your ceiling fan in an efficient and safe way. Whether it involves installing an existing pre-installed fan box or doing a complete installation of new ceiling fan wiring, Mario Castillo Electric will bring the air into your home.

Other Fan Installation Considerations

  • Height and position. For optimal air circulation, it is best to place the fan in the middle of the room and 8 to 9 feet above the floor. You should also ensure that the fan blades are at least 18 inches away from the walls.
  • Length of the Downrod. Downrods connect the motor to the blades. Typically, a 3-5 inch downrod is recommended for an 8-foot ceiling.
  • Low Ceilings. For ceilings lower than 8 feet, a flush-mount fan is the best option as it has special vents to cool the motor and a depth of only 6 to 9 inches. Note: these fans do not come with a lighting fixture.
  • Ceiling Fan Blades. Fans with more blades tend to be quieter but also can weigh more than those with fewer blades.
  • Voltage. Ensure your home's electrical systems can handle the power needs of your fan before installation. Mario Castillo Electric will conduct a thorough assessment to confirm a safe and efficient operation on a 120-volt circuit.
  • Accessibility. When choosing a ceiling fan for your home, make sure to take into consideration the location of the fan and how you plan to turn it on and off. Most ceiling fans come with pull chains that allow you to choose the fan's speed - typically three to six speeds. Other ceiling fan options can come with a wall control or remote to control the fan.
  • Lighting. It's important to decide whether or not you'll need additional lighting in your room. Determine if you have ample lighting in your room already. If this fan is going in a room that your family frequently works or reads in, lighting in the ceiling fan can help both cool and light the space.
  • Indoor vs. Outdoor. Indoor fans are typically made from materials that are not suitable for outdoor use. Outdoor fans are designed with durable materials that are able to handle all the elements, including wind, rain, and humidity. Outdoor fans are also corrosion-resistant and waterproof to prevent short-circuiting.
