What Does the New Infrastructure Law Mean For the Future of EV
Oct 19, 2022 | Electric/EV Car Charger
The recent passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a major milestone in the progress toward transitioning our transportation system away from fossil fuels and towards a more sustainable future and combat climate change. The law represents the largest long-term investment in our nation’s infrastructure and economy, with new federal investments in many projects, including electric vehicle (EV) chargers. Learn more about this law and how you can save money while updating your home and car.
What is the New Infrastructure Law?
One of the most significant impacts of this new law is its support for the expansion and development of the National Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure - a national network of EV chargers for convenient access throughout the country. This will be an essential component in ensuring that drivers have access to convenient, reliable charging infrastructure as we transition towards an electric transportation future. To access these funds, states will submit an EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan through the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation was created, in collaboration with U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Over the next decade, California will play a key role in this effort, given its high concentration of EV drivers and the state’s long-term commitment to reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. As more investments are made in EV chargers, California will continue to be a leader in the transition toward sustainable transportation.
Benefits of the Infrastructure Law
The Infrastructure Law provides numerous benefits for EV owners as well as homeowners. Perhaps most significantly, the law provides tax incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles and charging stations. This is a major boost for the electric vehicle industry, and it is expected to lead to an increase in sales of electric vehicles. In addition, the Infrastructure Law also provides funding for the construction of new charging stations and the upgrade of existing ones. This will make it easier for electric vehicle owners to find a place to charge their cars, and it will help to expand the infrastructure needed to support electric vehicles. Finally, the Infrastructure Law also includes provisions designed to improve the efficiency of the electric grid. These improvements will help to reduce the overall cost of electricity, making it more affordable for consumers. In short, the Infrastructure Law is a major win for electric vehicle owners and homeowners.
Benefits include:
- Supporting electric vehicles
- Decreased emissions
- Job creation
In addition to the Infrastructure Law, a recent Inflation Reduction Act is offering up to $14,000 in rebates and tax credits to make your home more energy-efficient. In addition, The Inflation Reduction Act expands a homeowner efficiency tax credit, called the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit. This covers up to 30% of the cost of energy upgrades, with a cap of $1,200 per year. So now updating your home can actually save you money!
Impact on California Residents
In 2021, over 250,00 electric vehicles were sold in California, bringing the total number
of electric vehicles sold in California to over 1 million. According to a recent report from the Union of Concerned Scientists, the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in California could have a significant impact on the state's economy and environment. The report found that, by 2030, EVs could reduce California's transportation-related emissions by up to 13 percent and save consumers up to $8 billion. In addition, the report found that the deployment of EVs could create nearly 60,000 jobs in the state. As the largest market for EVs in the United States, California is poised to lead the way in this important area of clean energy transportation.
The negative effects of climate change are hit the hardest in the coastal states including California. These impacts include higher temperatures, rising sea levels, wildlife, droughts, flooding, damage to property, and more. The Infrastructure Law is the largest investment in clean energy transmission in American history.
The Power of Partnerships
Mario Castillo Electric is proud to now partner with three companies to lead the charge on this new, cutting-edge technology: Tesla, SPAN and ChargePoint. Our expert staff has what it takes to help you fight increased prices on gas, home management, electric bills, and more.
Tesla
Telsa is a worldwide company that designs and manufactures electric vehicles and battery energy storage to power the future of clean energy. Named after the inventor of alternating currents, Tesla’s unmatched technology is the world’s best-selling EV. Tesla’s convenient charging solutions are perfect for homes and businesses alike. The wall connector features fast charging, custom power levels, connectivity over Wi-Fi, and more. Plus, the versatile wall connector is perfect for both indoor and outdoor mounting. Tesla’s wall connector must be installed by a certified Tesla electrician - which Mario Castillo Electric is!
SPAN
SPAN is a certified Energy Management System that is compatible with standard circuit breakers and works to monitor electrical loads throughout your home, automatically pausing pre-selected circuits on rare occurrences when total consumption temporarily exceeds the home’s maximum electrical capacity (until other loads cycle off and total consumption drops). Today, this functionality is available primarily for EV charger loads. Enabling electrification for all, this system will help move your home into an all-electric future and become more self-reliant. One of their features includes flexible backups - allowing you to power only the circuits/appliances that you need in case of an emergency. This long-term investment has a 10-year warranty and can help you save energy and money.
ChargePoint
ChargePoint is the world's largest network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in North America and Europe. Think of public cell phone chargers but for electric vehicles! Knowing that 80% of EV charging happens at home or work, ChargePoint has the industry-leading software for a premium charging experience to help build the fueling network of the future. With several options to choose from, these stations are commonly installed at malls, condos, public places, businesses, and homes.
